MAN CHARGED IN STORE HOLDUP

A man who gave police a false name and address has been charged with the armed robbery of a Southwest Roanoke convenience store early Sunday morning after a clerk at a second convenience store called police and told them the man had shown up there, Roanoke authorities said today.

Police said the man went into the Getty Mart at 1115 Main Street S.W. at 3:24 a.m. Sunday and made a purchase. He then brandished a small handgun at the clerk and demanded all of the money in the drawer.

The same man then appeared at a Getty Mart on Jefferson Street a short time later, and the clerk there called police. The man was arrested and charged with robbery and using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

The man told police a name and address in Salem. But police have learned that the identification is false.
