STRAY BEAR SEDATED, GIVEN A RIDE HOME

A black bear spotted in the city of Bristol during the weekend was successfully tranquilized by a biologist Monday afternoon and transported to a more appropriate area.

The bear, described as about 4 feet tall, had been reported to the Bristol Police Department by more than 20 callers Saturday.

Game wardens found it in Sugar Grove Park about 5 p.m. Monday and a tranquilizer gun was used to sedate it for removal.

Game Warden Dennis Austin had said earlier that the bear probably was looking for something to eat from garbage cans. He said it may have been the same bear reported in Abingdon, about 18 miles away in Washington County, more than a week ago.
