EX-NAVY OFFICIAL ROBERT CARNEY DIES

Adm. Robert B. Carney, a retired chief of Naval Operations and former commander in chief of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization forces in Southern Europe, died on Monday at his home in Washington. He was 95.

He died of cardiac arrest, said his daughter, Betty Taussig of Annapolis, Md.

Carney, a highly decorated veteran of combat in both world wars, served as chief of naval operations from 1953 to 1955 under President Dwight Eisenhower.

Carney was commander in chief of NATO forces from 1951 to 1953.
