SIX INDICTMENTS RETURNED IN FOREST ABDUCTION

A Smyth County grand jury has indicted 27-year-old Michael McGay Reeves in the Oct. 13 kidnapping and assault of a U.S. Forest Service employee.

The indictments returned Tuesday include attempted capital murder, abduction and two charges each of forcible sodomy and robbery.

The employee was stabbed and apparently left for dead after being forced to accompany an intruder at her office in the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area.

Reeves also has been charged with rapes in Bristol, Tenn., and Knoxville, Tenn., that occurred the same week as the attack on the employee.

He also has been charged with the murder of a Craven County, N.C., woman and has been a suspect in the killings of two Smyth County women - Barbara Jean Haga on April 16, 1989, and Betty Ann Shumate, July 5, 1989, although no charges have been filed in those cases.
