CAVE SPRING BAPTIST CHURCH, 4873 Brambleton Ave. S.W., will combine all its usual services Sunday into an 11 a.m. patriotic musical, "I Believe In America." The church's choirs and orchestra will perform, and a picnic will be held after the service.

\ A FREEDOM DAY CELEBRATION with special honor to veterans is scheduled Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Grandin Court Baptist Church, 2660 Brambleton Ave. S.W. A flag that has flown over the Capitol will be presented to the oldest veteran present. A picnic at Garst Mill Park will be held at 12:30 p.m.

\ KAREN SWAN, a member of Christ Lutheran Church, has been named the first coordinator of lay ministries at the church. In the part-time position, Swan will recruit, train and schedule members for needed volunteer jobs in the Grandin Road church.

\ THE REV. JAMES HAIN, formerly of Martinsville, is the new pastor of South Roanoke United Methodist Church. Hain, a Wesley Theological Seminary graduate, served churches in Richmond and the Rappahannock District prior to his five years in Martinsville. His wife, Loine, has worked with childrens' choirs and has developed a preschool. The family includes four daughters, Melanie, Heather, Rebecca and Angela.

\ SANDRA K. ANDERSON has joined the staff of St. John's Episcopal Church as Christian education director. Educated at San Diego State University and the Presbyterian School of Christian Education, she is mother of three grown children. Anderson previously worked in communications and adult education at churches in Connecticut and Massachusetts.

\ MARLENE FLYNN has been promoted from secretary to bookkeeper/ comptroller at First Presbyterian Church.
