Seven members of the Herman L. Horn Elementary School PTA were given the Virginia State PTA Distinguished Service Award at a recent meeting.
Receiving the award were Anne Shell, Melody Moore, John Lyden, Charles and Judy Gusler, Timberly Robertson and Shirley Mullins. Deborah Holdren received honorary life membership in the Virginia State PTA.
Holdren also was elected president of the school's PTA board. Other officers are Cathy Adkins, president-elect; James Perry, first vice president (programs); Charles Gusler, second vice president (membership); Ron Hodges, third vice president, Janet Hiler, secretary; and Fred Britt, treasurer.
Dystrophy association forms new auxiliary
The Southwest Virginia chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association is seeking people to join its new auxiliary.
The Star City Auxiliary will be involved in fund-raising, public awareness and patient services. One of the largest projects is the annual Muscular Dystrophy Labor Day Telethon.
