BASEBALL FIELD REZONE EFFORTS ABANDONED

The Wythe County School Board has decided not to seek a rezoning request on its Bob Turner Field, which would mean professional baseball could not use the facility even if it landed a team.

The Wytheville Baseball Club had wanted to move professional baseball to the field at George Wythe High School, but the area is not zoned for that and apparently will not be.

Withers Field, owned by the town, had been used the last time Wytheville had professional baseball but has since been deemed unsuitable in its present condition.

In other action Wednesday, the board named Mike Nealy assistant principal at Fort Chiswell High School for the coming year. He had been assistant principal at George Wythe. Nancy Jackson, a home economics teacher at Fort Chiswell, will become assistant principal.

***CORRECTION***

Mike Neal, assistant principal at Fort Chiswell High School, has been named assistant principal for 1990-91 at George Wythe High School. Because of a reporter's error, the names of the schools were reversed in a story Friday.
