VINTON MAN STABBED AT COUNTY MOTEL

A 26-year-old Vinton man was in stable condition today at a Roanoke hospital after being stabbed numerous times in the arms, legs and chest in a Roanoke County motel early this morning.

Roanoke County deputies responding to a call from a man who said he had been stabbed, found Travis Edward Kirkwood in a room at a motel in the 7600 block of Williamson Road about 12:25 a.m. today. He had numerous stab wounds and head injuries, authorities said.

A 16-year-old boy who was in the room with Kirkwood has been released to the custody of his grandparents, authorities said.

Kirkwood and the boy apparently had been visiting in the room and had a confrontation. Police said Kirkwood and the boy had met two days earlier.

Kirkwood, whose address is of Vale Avenue in Vinton, was in stable condition in intensive care at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

The investigation is continuing.
