Service Merchandise Co. Inc., a Nashville catalog showroom company planning to open a store at Towne Square in Roanoke, said it has sold $90 million in first mortgage notes to institutional investors through a Japanese bank. Proceeds will be used to pay a real estate loan.

\ AMP Inc., a Harrisburg, Pa., maker of electrical/electronic devices, has projected second-quarter sales of about $750 million, slightly less than the $764 million in the first quarter but more than the $723 million in the record quarter last year. AMP has a Roanoke plant and machine shop.
