Mr. Howard Fay Lawrence, age 69, of Salem, died Saturday, June 30, 1990, at the VA Medical Center in Salem after a long illness. He was a veteran of World War II and was a P.O.W. He worked for Tarpley's of Salem for nearly 40 years. He is survived by his wife, Lillian; one daughter and son-in-law, Connie and D. Jeff Johnson, High Point, N.C.; two sons, H. Steven Lawrence, Salem; Staff Sgt. Greg L. Lawrence, Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico; six grandchildren, Aaron and Ryan Johnson, High Point, N.C.; Shannon, Stevie and Sharon Lawrence, all of Salem; Jason (stepgrandson), Rio Rancho, New Mexico; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie and Kenneth Ray "Boots" Mowles; Christine and Robert Mason Journell; Annie V. King; sister-in-law, Ida Lawrence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Salem, with the Rev. Wayne McCauley officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of First Christian Church, Salem. Friends may call at the funeral home.
