In the first place, it helps to conceal their membership. This enables the Klan to aid officers of the law by being unknown to the public. The Klan by this means sees and hears everything. They know the evil forces but those forces don't know them.
Secondly, the hood is a symbol of unselfishness. With the hood, the Klan hides individuality and sinks into the sea of the Invisible Empire - not as individuals, but as Klansmen. "They Sacrifice to Serve," and their motto is "Non Silba Sed Anthar" (not for self, but for others).
I pray to everyone concerned: To allow the Klan to wear the hood is nothing more than standing up for law and order. God knows the truth. Out of pure love of my race and hate for no one! DON JOHNSON LYNCHBURG
