LACK OF IRAN AID SADDENS RELIEF WORKER

A relief agency distributed 40 tons of supplies to earthquake survivors in Iran on Sunday, but the official in charge of the shipment said it was "embarrassing" how little U.S. aid had gone to Iran.

A cargo plane with the supplies arrived in Tehran Sunday morning, said Stephen Norman, vice president of AmeriCares, a New Canaan-based relief organization.

The plane, the second loaded by AmeriCares, left Bradley International Airport on Saturday. Tacked to the supplies were small signs reading "Humanity is one body" in English and Persian.

Doyt Conn, AmeriCares project director, said it was "embarrassing" that more U.S. supplies were not going to Iran. "It's saddening. It's a shame," Conn said.

AmeriCares has plenty of supplies - some were left behind on Saturday's flight - but needs nearly $250,000 to charter the cargo planes for each trip, Conn said.
