Gracie Mae Lawson Southern, age 87, of Rt. 6, died Sunday, July 1, 1990 at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Southern; two sons, James William Southern and Robert Lee Southern; and one daughter, Ida Mae Linkous. Surviving are eight sons, and daughters-in-law, Henry and Juanita Southern, Eugene (Gene) and Tootsie Southern, both of Blacksburg; Leo and Clara Southern, Frederick (Freddie) and Frances Southern, Alan and Drema Southern, all of Christiansburg; John W. and Ellen Southern, Radford; Jesse Southern, Earl Southern, both of Frazier, Pa.; four daughters and sons-in-law; Ruby Mathena, Blacksburg; Louise and John Kinsley, Stewartsville; Katherine and David Hedge, Salem; Peggy and Bill Schmidt, Ephrata, Pa., a brother, Frederick (Cody) Lawson, Blacksburg; five sisters, Mrs. Richard (Kit) Linkous, Mrs. Harold (Loretta) Soodwring, both of Christiansburg; Mrs. Porter (Dorothy) Lucas, Pulaski; Marcella Cornwell, Front Royal; Elizabeth Thompson, La.; 34 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, four great-great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday from the Faith Missionary Baptist Church conducted by Rev. B. O. Burch, with Burial in the Linkous Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home.
