SALE OF BUILDINGS DELAYED UNTIL JULY 9

Completion of the sale of the Angle's Super Market building and several others to Montgomery County has been delayed until July 9, County Administrator Betty Thomas said Monday.

However, there is a good news for the previous occupants of the East Main Street buildings. Former residents of all eight apartments above the stores found new places to live.

The owners of Bill's Barber Shop and the Corner Beauty Shop have found temporary new sites, too.

Owen Linkous moved his barber shop to the former Kittinger Appliance Co. store.

BeeGee Atkinson's beauty shop will move Wednesday to the space formerly occupied by the Eyeglass Gallery.

Both moves will be across the street, to buildings that Christiansburg bought this year next to town hall.

The town plans to demolish them for expansion of town offices and parking. Linkous said his lease runs for 15 months.

Atkinson said she was unable to move out by Sunday, closing date for the $565,000 sale, because the Eyeglass Gallery had not yet moved to its new site, 18 W. Main St. She said she was grateful to Christiansburg officials for the reprieve.

The new store is about half the size of her old shop, though.

"We'll have to slender down here," she said. "Have to draw in our belt."

The county will use the Angle's site for parking and potential expansion of county offices.
