ENFORCE TRAFFIC LAWS FOR TRUCKERS

I JOIN with Raymond J. Lawrence in his article of protest June 25, "Speeding rigs an I-81 peril." It does not seem that speed limits are uniformly enforced against truckers. Considering the weight of their vehicles and loads, this is, indeed, an invitation to carnage.

Surely everyone, except possibly marked patrol cars, has experienced the threat of a monstrous tractor-trailer riding almost bumper-to-bumper behind him, knowing that a sudden stop would inevitably cause a devastating accident.

Not only should the police enforce the speed limit, they should also enforce the laws that govern safe distances between vehicles. BROOKS R. LEAVITT MARTINSVILLE
