LIGHTEN UP, LAUGH ALONG WITH SHAMY

IN THE PAST several months, I've become amused at what I consider "Ed Shamy bashing." It seems to occur when a reader finds himself in one of those groups that Shamy targets, becomes quite offended, and must write to tell all of Roanoke how wonderful goats are, or how the place that they reside in is really a glorious place.

Honestly though, do you really think that his writings contain the malice that would provoke the letter-writing that has occurred over his column?

I for one happen to live in good ol' Franklin County, and am teased, not only by friends, but also by persistent rumors that there must be a still on my land somewhere! I don't get offended and give them a snooty answer in reply, but have a good laugh.

These "Ed Shamy bashers" should, instead of getting angered over being made fun of, lighten up and have a good laugh at themselves sometimes. He honestly isn't trying to be malicious. KATHLEEN CUSTER HARDY
