5TH CANDIDATE IN RACE FOR SALEM COURT CLERK

F. Van Gresham, a commercial sales representative, has announced he will be a candidate in the Nov. 6 election for the position of clerk of Salem Circuit Court.

Gresham's announcement brings to five the number of candidates. The others are June Higgs, current clerk; Bob Gray, an employee of the Salem Department of Parks and Recreation; C. Donald Bedwell, business manager for Valley Motorsport; and H. Lee Hale, a senior appraiser for the city of Salem.

Gresham, a commercial sales representative for American District Telegraph Ltd., is a member of the Salem Board of Zoning Appeals. He is a Salem native, president of the Salem Sports Foundation and has served as chairman of its scholarship committee.

"I believe the clerk of the Circuit Court is a vital component of the legal system and should strive to provide the best possible services to the people it is meant to serve," Gresham said in a news release.

"To work to provide the most effective and efficient clerk's office in the state of Virginia, while serving the citizens and members of the legal system of the city of Salem would be my goal."
