Klein, 47, was in stable condition at New York Hospital, where he was flown by helicopter Tuesday night, said Mary Cialone, a hospital spokeswoman. He also had a bruised lung and cuts on his head and probably will remain hospitalized for about a week, she said.
Paul Wilmot, a spokesman for Klein, said the fashion designer was riding his horse at a stable in Bridgehampton when "something spooked the horse."
Princess Diana gave Spanish tenor Jose Carreras an honorary membership in the Royal Academy of Music on Wednesday.
Carreras, 44, who resumed his singing career two years ago after bone marrow surgery for leukemia, traveled to London for the school's graduation ceremony. German-born conductor Klaus Tennstedt, the conductor laureate of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and international violinists Erich Gruenberg and Gyorgy Pauk also were made honorary academy members.
Phil Donahue, the talk-show host, may be considered the ideal husband by thousands of women but the one who married him says he's far from perfect.
"Phil is the greatest husband in the world, and he's nothing to brag about," Marlo Thomas told the General Federation of Women's Clubs convention in New York on Tuesday.
She says her husband shares a trait common among married men - always asking their wives where their shoes, keys and other belongings are. "And the thing that kills me is, we know where those things are!"
Thomas also told the group that women get a bum rap in the business world.
"A man has to be Joe McCarthy to be called ruthless," she said. "All a woman has to do is put you on hold."
