CARTOON CONTAINED ETHNIC STEREOTYPE

YOUR JUNE 20 editorial cartoon was very disappointing. Normally I find myself agreeing with your editorials, which are well-thought-out and sensitive to the feelings of your readers, even though they seem to go against the opinions of the majority of them.

This is why I was so surprised at the cartoon showing James Baker waiting for "Israel" to call. Not that I am in total support of Israel's policies, but the cartoon promotes the stereotype of the "cheap Jew" by inferring that the Israelis are going to call collect to ask for money.

In a state where the words "cheap" and "Jew" are used interchangeably, I would hope that your editors would be more careful in screening the cartoons and guest editorials that you print. I understand that this cartoonist is not on your staff and that this may have been an oversight, but you should express your displeasure to the cartoonist and request an apology before using his cartoons again.
