Dorothy Viola Phibbs Thornton, age 87, of Rt. 1, Alum Spring Rd., Pulaski, died Wednesday, July 4, 1990, in the Pulaski Community Hospital. Born May 14, 1903, in Carroll County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Canady Calvin Phibbs and Minnie Victoria Morris Phibbs. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Dave Thornton, and a son, Elridge Randolph Thornton. She was a former employee of the Paul Knitting Mills, Pulaski. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Al (Eleanor) Wyrick, Lynchburg; Mrs. Glenn (Nell) Reiff, Hope Sound, Fla.; five sons, Walter Preston Thornton and Calvin Eugene Thornton, both of Pulaski; John Ronald "Ronnie" Thornton, Centerville, Va.; Harvey Edwin Thornton, Lexington, N.C.; Cecil Leslie Thornton, Sumter, S.C.; fifteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lilly Octavia Martin, Cincinnati, Ohio; Mrs. Laura Victoria Duncan, Pulaski; one half sister, Mrs. Clara May Neare, Washington, D.C.; one half brother, Eldon Phibbs, Washington, D.C. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski, with the Rev. Johnny Howlett officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery, Pulaski. Visiting will be anytime today. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. this evening at the Bower Funeral Chapel, 1631 Bob White Blvd., Pulaski, Va. Contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski, is handling the arrangements.
