JUDGE TO IMPOSE SOERING'S SENTENCE FOR MURDERS AUG. 29

Convicted murderer Jens Soering will be sentenced Aug. 29 by Bedford County Circuit Judge William Sweeney.

A jury last month found Soering, 23, guilty of two counts of first-degree murder for killing his girlfriend's parents and recommended the West German diplomat's son serve two life terms in prison.

Derek and Nancy Haysom were stabbed and slashed to death in their Bedford County home in March 1985. Their daughter, Elizabeth Haysom, is serving a 90-year sentence for plotting the slayings.

Sweeney had delayed formal sentencing so a background report could be done on Soering.
