UVA OPENER ON ESPN

Confirming months of speculation, ESPN announced Thursday that it will televise Virginia's home football opener Sept. 8 against Clemson.

The game is expected to have a major impact on the ACC championship and will serve as the second game in an ESPN tripleheader. Kickoff at Scott Stadium at 4:10 p.m., and air time is 4 p.m.

It will be UVa's second appearance on ESPN. The Cavaliers wrapped up a share of their first ACC football title in November with a victory at Maryland on the cable network.

ESPN's Sept. 8 trio of games begins at 12:30 p.m. with California-Wisconsin. The CFA prime-time game is Miami at Brigham Young at 7:30 p.m.
