IN SCHOOL

The SALEM HIGH SCHOOL jazz band won the class III trophy in the 18th annual James Madison University Tri-State Jazz Festival. The band, directed by Dennis Reaser, was one of 20 groups from Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania that competed in the festival.

Two Salem band members also earned honors. Cyrus Pack received an outstanding instrumentalist award in the rhythm division, and Larry O'Dell, was named to the festival All-Star Band.

\ WAYNE G. REILLY has been selected as the first recipient of the Marion Salinger Award by the Southeast Council for Canadian Studies. Reilly, who specializes in Canadian and comparative politics, is a political science professor at Hollins College and former president of the Southeast Council for Canadian Studies.

Reilly, a former professor at Washington and Lee University, is co-author and editor of several books and articles.
