THERE'LL ALWAYS BE A NEED FOR PENNIES

IT INFURIATES me to read about the "lowly penny."

Banker John Glenn (quoted in June 18 article) wants us to pity the penny. The penny was here long before he was and will surely outlast him. There will always be a need for them. Sometimes great, other times small.

As long as the penny is legal tender, I will stoop to pick one up. It's true, one penny by itself stands alone; but put with others, they do add up to dollars.

When and if the government stops making them - as it did for coins with silver content, the silver certificate and the $2 bill - the collectors will battle for them. Just wait and see!

Please don't throw them away. Put them back into circulation and let them do their job.
