The Bucs outhit Winston-Salem 13-6 but left at least one runner on base in every inning but the first.
Salem scored three times in the fourth inning to take a 3-2 lead. The big hit was a two-run double by Greg Sims,who finished with three RBI.
The Bucs trailed 7-3 going to the ninth,but rallied. Chris Estep reached on a bad-hop single and moved to second on a one-out walk to Glen McNabb. A single to right by Rob Bailey made it 7-4 and brought on Jay Eddings in relief of Derek Stroud (4-1). Sims hit a potential double-play grounder to first baseman Elvin Paulino, but shortstop Billy White dropped the throw at second as McNabb scored.
Bruce Schreiber then grounded into a force play and Mandy Romero struck out to end the game.
The big hit for the Spirits was a two-run,bad-hop single by Fernando Ramsey in a four-run seventh inning.
Mike Pomeranz (3-6) took the loss in relief of Tim McDowell.
Eddings was credited with his eighth save for Winston-Salem.i
