\ WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA - Dr. Fred T. Garland, age 84, formerly of Roanoke, died Friday, July 6, 1990 at his home after an extended illness. He was the son of the late Harry Elmo and Annie Preas Garland, Roanoke. Dr. Garland was a Baptist evangelist for 50 years. He was the founder of the Roanoke City Rescue Mission and the International Fellowship of Fundamentalists. During his ministry Dr. Garland served as an Assistant Pastor of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church, Roanoke, and the Salem Baptist Church, Winston-Salem, N.C. At the time of his death, he was the Associate Pastor-Emeritus of the Reimer Road Baptist Church, Wadsworth, Ohio. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Reginald Garland; Jimmy Garland; and Paul W. Garland; one sister, Estelle Garland Trenor. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Boone Garland, West Palm Beach, Fla; one son, John T. Garland, Arlington, Va; two daughters and one son-in-law, Mrs. Carol Ann Tortorello, Merrick, N.Y.; Mary Anne and Stephen Sheffield, West Palm Beach, Fla.; one grandson, John Tortorello, Merrick, N.Y.; one granddaughter, Carolyn Tortorello, Merrick, N.Y.; one great-grandson; one sister, Mrs. James (Eunice) Quisenberry, Roanoke; and thirteen nieces and nephews in Roanoke. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 1990 at 11:00 a.m. at the Berean Baptist Church in West Palm Beach. Arrangements by Quattlebaum-Holleman Burse Funeral Home, West Palm Beach, Fla.
