\ James Edward Humphries, age 81, of Roanoke, died at his home Friday, July 6, 1990. He was a member of and deacon of Forest Park Baptist Church. He was a member of and past Worshipful Master of Melrose Lodge No. 139, A.F. & A.M. He was also a member of the Sherwood Archers. He is survived by his wife, Ruth R. Humphries; five daughters, Jean H. Hurt, Roanoke; Bettie Jo Hefner, Catawba; Betty S. Gilbert, Roanoke; Susan S. Caywood, Roanoke; Jerry S. Davis, Longwood, Fla.; one son, Jack L. Saunders, Schaumburg, Ill.; one sister, Bertha H. Lewis, Roanoke; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's North Chapel at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, with the Rev. Frank W. Feather officiating. Burial will be in Sherwood Burial Park with Masonic rites by Melrose Lodge No. 139 A.F. & A.M. Friends may call at Oakey's North Chapel after 12:00 noon Sunday.
