TRAFFIC REROUTED ON INTERSTATE 81

Traffic on Interstate 81 was rerouted Saturday evening after several canisters containing radioactive materials fell off a tractor-trailer near Wytheville. State police dispatchers said none of the canisters was leaking, but both northbound and southbound traffic was rerouted onto Virginia 610.

Southbound traffic was getting off on Exit 25, which leads to Fort Chiswell. Northbound traffic was exiting the interstate on Exit 22, which is near the I-81 intersection with Interstate 77.

State police were still on the scene late Saturday.
