2 LIVE CREW CANCELS SHOW; FANS TURN VIOLENT

A dispute with promoters prompted the rap group 2 Live Crew to cancel a concert, triggering a melee by unruly fans that injured two newspaper photographers and a reporter.

The rappers, whose album "As Nasty As They Wanna Be" has been ruled obscene by a Florida judge and banned in San Antonio, refused to play Saturday night at the Longhorn Ballroom after a promoter refused to pay them in advance.

Shortly afterward, about 50 people went on a rampage, breaking chairs and throwing bottles.

Security guards forced the protesters outside, but several windows in the front of the building were broken and some cars were vandalized before about 50 police in riot gear arrived and dispersed the crowd, witnesses said.
