BUCS BEATEN AGAIN

The Salem Buccaneers struck early, but the Durham Bulls struck back and went on to a 7-4 Carolina League baseball victory Sunday night.

The Bulls have won 10 of 11 games against the Bucs this season.

Salem wasted little time taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning. On the first pitch, Greg Sims hit a hard grounder down the left-field line for a triple, then scored on Bruce Schreiber's sacrifice fly. Salem's third batter, Mandy Romero, doubled to left and went to third on left fielder's D.C. Campbell's throwing error. Designated hitter Tim Hines then singled home Romero to make it 2-0.

Darwin Pennye and Chris Estep struck out to end the inning and begin a stretch of 22 consecutive Bucs retired by left-hander Pedro Borbon (2-1), son of the former major-leaguer of the same name.

Steve Buckholz (6-7) took the loss.
