Mrs. Maxie Gay Young Stoneman, age 75, died Sunday morning at the Twin County
Community Hospital, Galax, Va. She was born October 1, 1914 at Fox, Grayson
County, Va., a daughter of Roby Matthew and Mary Ruth Martin Young. She was a
former Grand Matron of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of Appalachian
Trail Chapter of DAR. She retired from teaching in Carroll County School
System, and taught last at the Gladesboro Elementrary School. She is survived
by the husband, Mr. Willard Glenn Stoneman; two daughters, Mrs. Stephen
(Theresa Gay) Taylor, Edison, N.J.; Mrs. William (Patricia Carolyn) Largen,
Mt. Airy, N.C.; two sons, Vincent Glenn Stoneman, Alexandria; Richard Glenn
Stoneman, Christiansburg; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Wayne (Honor)
Hash, Galax; Mrs. Ray (Ruth) Midgette, Modesto, Conn.; two brothers, Roby M.
Young, Jr., Redding, Conn.; William D. Young, Baltimore, Md. A memorial
service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Hillsville on
Tuesday, July 10, 1990, at 7:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests
that donations in memory of Mrs. Stoneman be made to Oakhill Academy, Mouth of
Wilson, Va.
