GROCERY PRICES HIGHER IN MAY

Grocery prices rose 1.8 percent last month in Roanoke supermarkets and are up 5.1 percent in the last year, according to a survey released Monday by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

The agency's monthly Market Basket survey of food prices said its comparison of prices showed a typical 40-item order cost $75.05 in June, up from $73.73 in May and from $71.42 in June 1989.
