TWARDZIK JOINS HORNETS' STAFF

Dave Twardzik, a former Old Dominion University guard who played for the Portland Trail Blazers' NBA championship team in 1976-77, has joined the Charlotte Hornets as an assistant coach and director of scouting.

Twardzik, a native of Hershey, Pa., is entering his fifth season as an NBA assistant coach. He was with the Los Angeles Clippers last season after spending three seasons on the Indiana Pacers' staff.

Twardzik, 39, also played for the American Basketball Association's Virginia Squires for four seasons before moving to Portland. Twardzik was a College Division All-America selection twice at ODU, where he averaged 20.2 points during his four-year career. - Staff report
