CHRISTIANSBURG MAN IS FOUND FATALLY STABBED

Sheriff's deputies are investigating the stabbing death of a 33-year-old man found Monday night lying in the carport of a Montgomery County home.

Michael Wayne Webb, who lived in the Christiansburg area, was found about 10:45 p.m. by the residents of the home on Yellow Sulphur Springs Road (Virginia 643), said Chief Deputy Milton Graham of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department.

"The occupants heard someone cry for help," Graham said Tuesday. "They apparently were in bed at the time and when they went out to look they found Mr. Webb in their carport."

Graham said that by the time the rescue squad arrived, Webb had died. He had been stabbed in the left side of his chest.

Webb's death was ruled a homicide, Graham said. The body was to be taken to Roanoke for an autopsy.

Sheriff's investigators initially had been unable to identify Webb. They worked through the night, but all they were able to learn was his name, that he was originally from Ohio and that he had been living in the Montgomery County area for a few years, Graham said.

"The occupants [of the house] didn't know who he was and we don't know anything about him yet," he said.

Graham said he could not release information on possible suspects.
