Troy Wayne Malcom, 19, faces murder, robbery and grand larceny charges in a grand jury indictment handed up Monday, said Covington Police Sgt. Kenneth Lane.
Authorities say Malcom and Rocky Dale Rogers planned to break into a house and rob Dorothy Balsey, who was found stabbed, raped and beaten Jan. 9.
Rogers is awaiting a Sept. 10 trial for capital murder, which could lead to a death sentence. Both men are from the Covington area.
Malcom was in Alleghany County Jail at the time of his murder indictment, according to Lane. He was convicted last month for eight counts of breaking and entering, two for grand larceny and five for petty larceny.
In January, Malcom was charged on 21 counts resulting from break-ins in the neighborhood where Balsey lived. Rogers was charged on four counts.
According to police, Rogers admitted raping and robbing Balsey, but denied stabbing her.
