SALEM GOLFER MAKES SEMIFINALS

Lee Shirley of Salem reached the semifinal round in the girls' division of the Bobby Bowers Junior Memorial golf tournament Wednesday with a victory in match play at Springfield Golf and Country Club.

Shirley, 13, defeated Baltimore's Kelly Just 5 and 3. In a semifinal this morning, Shirley will play 17-year-old Lisa Biernot of Chesapeake, the 1989 champion. The championship match also will be played today.

Shirley, a freshman at North Cross School, qualified for match play with a round of 87. The match-play victory Wednesday was her second in the tournament. - Staff report
