AMERICAN TACKS ON CHARGE AT FIVE AIRPORTS

American Airlines says it is adding $1 to $4 to the cost of a ticket at five airports to help pay for "excessive and unreasonable" fees there.

They will take effect Sunday at New York's LaGuardia Airport, Newark (N.J.) International Airport, New Orleans International Airport, Palm Beach International Airport in West Palm Beach, Fla., and Southwest Florida Regional in Fort Myers, Fla.

Other airlines said they would not follow the lead of the nation's largest carrier, and analysts don't expect the surcharges to establish a norm within the industry.
