LYNCHBURG EXPLOSION INJURES THREE

Three Lynchburg subcontractors were burned, one critically, in a cleaning fluid explosion Tuesday at an Exxon Chemical Co. plant.

David Campbell, 53, was in critical condition Wednesday at the University of Virginia Hospital Burn Center, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Dennis Hancock, 26, was in serious condition at the UVa Burn Center, and Dennis Walker, 39, was listed in fair condition at Lynchburg General Hospital.

After pouring paint remover on the bathroom floor, workers turned on an electric floor buffer to remove the paint. A spark from the buffer's motor ignited the fumes, Lynchburg Fire Department Cmdr. P.G. Scott said.
