FAA REPORTS TWO JETS TOO CLOSE OVER STATE

Two passenger jets flew too close to each other over Gordonsville on Monday, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

Pan American World Airways Flight 505, a Boeing 727 carrying 132 people from New York City to Orlando, Fla., came within 4 miles of United Airlines Flight 1015, a Boeing 737 with 41 aboard.

The incident occurred at 9:15 p.m. as the United plane, on a flight from Dulles International Airport in Northern Virginia to Atlanta, was climbing from 27,000 feet to 35,000 feet. Neither plane took evasive maneuvers, the FAA said.
