INVESTIGATION ENDING IN CHESAPEAKE CRASH

The investigation into the July 1 collision of two container vessels in the Chesapeake Bay is expected to last another day, the Coast Guard said Wednesday.

The joint Coast Guard-National Transportation Safety Board panel, which began work July 3, had hoped to finish with testimony Wednesday. Lt. Kenneth McKenna of the Coast Guard's Marine Safety Office in Norfolk said the panel will take at least one more day to complete testimony.

The crews of the Neptune Jade and the Columbus America have testified that both their ships were on the proper side of the channel into Hampton Roads.
