AGREEMENT REACHED IN NICARAGUA

Negotiators for the Nicaraguan government and Sandinista leaders reached an agreement today that will end a violent, 17-day-old strike that left at least six people dead and about 100 injured.

The agreement was signed by representatives of President Violeta Barrios de Chamorro and the National Workers' Front.

The accord calls on the government to raise wages by 43 percent and suspend its decree returning land confiscated during Sandinista rule to its original owners.

There also will be no reprisals against the more than 90,000 workers who participated in the walkout, according to the agreement.
