SEEPAGE PROBLEM FOUND AT FINCASTLE PLANT

A recent state Water Control Board inspection showed that the town's sewage-treatment plant has some seepage and the town will be asked to monitor the situation, town council learned Tuesday.

Wayne Weikel, director of utilities, told council that a state inspector has recommended that the town drill several wells to determine where the seepage is coming from and how serious the problem is.

The seepage was discovered during a routine inspection for the town's permit to discharge waste water. The permit must be renewed in January and the town will have to monitor the seepage problem to see if any corrections are needed. The wells will not have to be drilled until after the permit is renewed.

Council reappointed Councilman R.D. Henderson to a two-year term as the council's representative on the Fincastle Planning Commission.

Council passed a motion approving a five-year lease of the building that formerly housed a clothing closet as the town's new office. Council has received a grant to renovate the building and will advertise for bids that will be opened at its August meeting.
