ARTIST'S EFFORTS BRING RECOGNITION TO STATION

Blue Ridge Public Television has received a national award in recognition of the success of the "Masterpiece Evening" fund-raising art auction and the efforts of artist John Will Creasy.

The station was named by the National Friends of Public Broadcasting to receive the Charlotte Hill Volunteers in Fund-Raising Award. The award is given annually to the station that demonstrates creativity and effectiveness in the use of volunteers in fund-raising.

As a member of the volunteer art committee, Creasy joined with other Roanoke-area artists to upgrade the donated art items for the auction and to enhance the visual presentation of the items.

Proceeds from the auction increased from the previous two-day total of $22,000 to a one-day total of $49,000.
