Waltrip was flown to Nashville, Tenn., to continue his recovery from a broken left thigh bone and a dislocated bone in his left arm, said Larry Balewski, spokesman for Daytona International Speedway.
Waltrip has regained full use of his arm and partial use of his leg, said Dr. Albert Gillespy, who treated him at Halifax Medical Center.
"I'm doing real good," Waltrip said at Daytona Beach Regional Airport.
Waltrip said he feared he would not race for a while but now feels more confident. He added that Gillespy initially told him the rehabilitation would take as long as eight weeks.
"I said, `I can go along with everything you're saying, if you'll help me do one thing . . . I've got to run two laps in two weeks at Pocono [to earn Winston Cup points].' And he just about fell on the floor," Waltrip said.
