PROPOSITION 48 CLAIMS TECH FOOTBALL RECRUIT

Virginia Tech football recruit Chip Ferguson said Thursday he did not meet Proposition 48 requirements and will attend Norfolk State on a full scholarship.

Ferguson, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound outside linebacker from E.C. Glass, played in the Virginia High School Coaches Association all-star football game Thursday. He said afterward that he failed to make at least 700 on the SAT.

"I really wanted to go to Tech," Ferguson said. "I'm kind of disappointed because of the SAT. But I'm here to get an education, try to make my parents happy."

Ferguson said he will sit out his first year at Norfolk State, a Division II school, to work on his grades.
