AREA GOLFERS LOSE IN BOWERS FINAL ROUND

Lee Shirley of Salem and Scott Reynolds of Lexington were defeated in the final round of the Bobby Bowers Jr. Memorial golf tournament on Thursday.

In the girls' division, Shirley lost to Heather Bowie of Dover, Del., 5 and 4 in the match-play event at the Springfield Golf and Country Club. Reynolds lost 4 and 3 to Bobby Bilbo of Frederick, Md., in the boys' 14-15 age group.

Earlier in the day, Shirley, 13, defeated the tournament's defending champion, 17-year-old Lisa Biernot of Chesapeake, 8 and 6 in a semifinal match. Reynolds defeated Kahn Li of Falls Church 5 and 4 to reach the final. - Staff report
