MONETA CAR COUNTERS TO SEND TALLIES TO STATE

Moneta Ruritans counted nearly 20,000 vehicles crossing the railroad tracks along Virginia 122 last month.

The count - which lasted 72 hours starting June 27 - was intended to show state transportation officials that Moneta residents need another route to bypass the tracks through town.

Counters tallied 19,365 cars, trucks and trailers. The daily average of 6,455 vehicles was slightly less than 6,557 cars a day counted during the same period in 1989.
