Ned Dunn, president of the Charlotte, N.C.-based food chain, said the store will use the name it operated under in the early 1980s - Food World. The name was changed to Harris-Teeter in 1985, following the merger of the Food World and Harris-Teeter chains.
The Hershberger Road store, one of six the chain operates in Roanoke and Salem, is the only one slated for conversion. The change was made because it was "not doing anywhere near as much business" as was done under the old Food World name, Dunn said. He declined to release sales figures.
As Food World, the store will offer more promotional special sales and some product lines, such as soft drinks, will be expanded to offer more variety, he said.
