BASSETT FURNITURE REPORTS LOSS
Bassett Furniture Industries reported a loss of $969,000 for the first half
of 1990, down from earnings of $8.2 million a year ago. The company reported a
one-time restructuring charge of $14.3 million, following the closing of a
plant in Bassett and other changes. Net sales for the first half came to
$219.9 million, down $7.9 million from a year ago.
Robert H. Spilman, chairman, wrote stockholders that he does not foresee
any improvement in furniture market conditions in the foreseeable future. -
