NEW RIVER PEOPLE

NARLENE DULANEY of Christ- Dulaney iansburg received the Division and Unit Volunteer Award from the Virginia division of the American Cancer Society. The award gives statewide recognition for volunteer work in the community. Dulaney was honored for her activities with the Radford and Montgomery units of the society. She has been a volunteer for 15 years and is vice president.

\ ARTHUR G. PRICE JR. of Christiansburg, director of parks and recreation for the town, was elected to the Virginia Recreation and Park Society Board of Trustees. He'll be representative to the National Recreation and Park Association's regional office.

\ TAMARA SHUCK, a Blacksburg High graduate, was awarded a 1990 scholarship from the Virginia Mountain Crafts Guild for consistent high grades. She'll study architectural landscaping at Virginia Tech.

\ MICHAEL M. DOUGHTY of Blacksburg is new manager of propellant development at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. He has been with Hercules Inc. for nine years and succeeds retiring John Pierce. Doughty has been a supervisor in process engineering for four years. He and his wife, Lillian, have two children and are members of Good Shepherd Church of the Brethren. He is also a member of the American Defense Preparedness Association.

\ WILLIAM P. HUTCHINS of Radford retired as a rocket area foreman at Radford Army Ammunition Plant after 41 years. He and his wife, Iva, attend Gethsemane Baptist Church. They have three children and five grandchildren. Hutchins is a member of the VFW Post No. 776 in Radford and works on engines in his spare time.

\ JOHN W. PIERCE, propellant development manager with Radford Army Ammunition Plant, retired after 39 years. He and his wife, Margaret, live in Radford and have one son. He is a member of the Kazim Temple, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the American Defense Preparedness Association.

\ THOMAS M. TOWNSEND, shift supervisor in the rocket area of Radford Army Ammunition Plant, retired after nearly 36 years. He and his wife, Nell, have three children, three grandchildren and a great-grandchild. The couple live in Radford.

\ PAUL N. HELMS of Christiansburg retired as a turbine and switchboard operator in the utilities and service department at Radford Army Ammunition Plant after 24 years. He and his wife, Lois, have two children. He's a member of DAV and VFW Post No. 5311 and served with the Army in Korea.
